Canyons and Waves

Album Description

Canyons and Waves — The Griff Peters debut roots rock solo album on 12” 180-gram 45rpm double-vinyl with deluxe 24-page art booklet.

Canyons and Waves examines the experiences of the wounded healer archetype from a perspective of having gratitude for being alive and having a story worth telling. Select album standouts include “She Plays with Light,” “Choose Love,” “Holiday,” “Dirt,” and “Where You Been.” The up-tempo song “She Plays with Light” is dynamically arranged with smoky verses replete with lyrical slide guitar contrasted with a catchy pop-rock chorus. Thematically, the song explores a gut-wrenching freefall by a highly-gifted creative soul. Griff elaborates: “It celebrates the playfulness and natural joyful artistry of a talented woman I know who was going through a great suffering. The song mirrors our own inner radiance and power, showing broken hearts can heal from within.”

The inspiration for the song “Choose Love” came from exploring meditation, and longing for sacred music that reflected the transcendent power of the blues. The result is one burly slab of classic rock replete with John Bonham-style drums and vocals that exude sensual enlightenment.

“‘Choose Love’ is a blues mantra to help us remember our roadmap: deep breath, acceptance, compassion, forgiveness, and love,” Griff explains.

The bucolic folk tune, “Holiday,” which recalls rustic Led Zeppelin III, is a song of compassion for those who self-medicate. The smoldering and snarky “Dirt” showcases Griff’s meaty guitar tone and tasty slide playing. The country-flavored “Where You Been?” is a song of surrender that takes the listener on a journey spanning simple and vulnerable beauty in the first half, but ends in a hypnotic and haunting trench.

Griff will be promoting Canyons and Waves with shows and videos of the songs being performed live in the studio, onstage, and in breathtaking natural expanses. He will also be performing and releasing more new songs in the months ahead. Reflecting back on his epiphanic journey, Griff says: “Music says things that cannot be said otherwise. It reaches people’s hearts in places that cannot be reached by any other way. I’m using music this time around to transcend barriers and gently say ‘Hey – I’ve been there, too, but now I’ve found a better way.’”
